The Fast & Curious: Startup Drift
The Fast & Curious: Startup Drift
Teaser: Throughout this movie, I've played the roles of:
Founder – Starting the engine of Moonscape.
IT Specialist – Drifting through DNS settings and domain issues.
Secretary – Keeping the paperwork tight and the gears running smoothly.
Marketing Manager – Fuelling the brand for a smooth ride.
Social Media Strategist – Steering through Instagram growth curves.
Crypto Trader – Accelerating the funds with Bitcoin turbo boosts.
Business Development Specialist – Navigating partnerships and client leads.
Product Designer – Crafting sleek designs for the finish line.
Mentee – Learning from those who’ve been down the road before me.
Mentor – Guiding others while learning to handle life’s curves.
Act 1: The Start – Starting the Engine 🚗💨
I spent a week getting my website live—tweaking DNS settings, cursing domain errors, and revving up a new brand identity.
The next step? Making it official with the ACRA registration in Singapore.
Ta-daaa! Moonscape is now a real business in Singapore. And that was my first win. 🎉
Lesson: Start messy, improve as you go—just hit the gas!
Act 2: Social Media Hustle – Building Speed 📈
I knew Moonscape and my personal Instagram account needed to be visible, so I went all-in on Instagram.
From 0 followers (and me alone liking my own posts) to over 2,000, I learned to shoot, edit, and post like a pro. My pit stop? Winning Silver at the London Design Awards in the Finance/Banking category. 🚥
Lesson: Don’t wait for perfection—start driving and adjust on the road!
Act 3: The Crypto Boost – Turbo Mode 🤑
Bitcoin hit $100k!
I had some business funds tied up in crypto, and it gave my startup funds a nice little boost right when I needed it most.
Thank you, BTC, for being the unexpected co-founder of Moonscape!
Lesson: Sometimes the road surprises you—be ready to accelerate
Act 4: Doubts & Job Interviews – Sharp Turns 😅
In the midst of this whole movie shooting, I had 4 recruiters reach out for interviews. And I actually went to 2 of them. Double life much? 😅
I almost hit the brakes and went back to full-time jobs. The struggle was real but conversations with mentors kept me on the track.
Lesson: Talk to those who’ve been down this road and learn from them. Their advice can save you hours of headaches.
Act 5: The Event Circuit – New Lanes Open 🛣️
As an introvert, stepping out for events felt like merging onto a highway with a shopping cart—awkward, slow, and definitely not built for speed—but I gave it a shot!
SFF, Pecha Kucha Night, Mindfulness event to learn Tai Chi, Singapore AI Showcase event, Founder's Networking night and even showed up at a book launch.
Surprisingly, these events were fun and knowing new people gave me new perspectives!
Around the same time, the universe seemed to have its own plans for me. Suddenly, people started approaching me to join them in selling property, insurance, and MLM products.
I even signed up for LinkedIn Sales Navigator, thinking it would speed up client leads.
But here’s what I realized: cold emailing and pitching myself as a “work-in-progress product” just wasn’t the right approach for me.
So, I made a shift.
Instead of just focusing on leads, I decided to invest more in my growth—improving myself, building authentic relationships, and creating valuable work. I believe that when I focus on these things, the right opportunities and connections will follow.
Lesson: New lanes open up new opportunities.
Act 6: Laundromat Franchise – Off-Road Adventures 🚙
Here comes the plot twist—right in the middle of my entrepreneurial journey, I decided to investigate opening a laundromat.
Yeah, you read that right. It was a serious consideration.
I spoke to a few franchise owners last 2 weeks, did my research, and entertained the idea of managing coin-operated washing machines.
The thought of running a detergent empire didn’t go anywhere yet, but hey, entrepreneurship is about testing ideas, right? 😆
Who knew my destiny could’ve been coins and detergent? MoonBubbles maybe?
Lesson: Every path teaches you something—stay curious and keep exploring.
Act 7: Guiding the Next Generation of Designers – Passing the Torch🔥
From struggling as a one-day teacher to mentoring aspiring designers, I’ve come full circle.
Back in high school, I had a chaotic experience as a teacher for 5-year-old kids.
I lasted exactly one day—chasing them around, trying to keep some orders. It was a disaster.
But hey, I guess adults and kids are very different, huh?
I’m genuinely grateful to those who approached me for guidance. It’s humbling to see a bit of my younger self in them—lost, lacking confidence, seeking reassurance, but full with potential.
Funny thing is, while I’m supposed to be guiding them, I find myself learning just as much from them. Big shoutout to adplist.org for creating such an amazing platform for us to connect and grow together. It’s been a fun and rewarding experience!
Lesson: The best drivers should know how to guide others while learning from the road ahead.
Closing Scene: Drift Into the Future 🚗💨
In my first few months, there were wins, doubts, random ideas (laundromat, anyone?), and some pleasant surprises along the way.
But the most important lesson?
Keep hustling, learning, and staying curious. The finish line is just another starting point.
I’m just getting started, and I’m so grateful for the people who’ve supported me so far.
Big thanks to all my family, friends and mentors, and even the Crypto Gods! 🙌
For myself, and to everyone reading this:
If you’re thinking about your own journey, take the leap. You’ll figure it out. We’re all in this together, and the best is yet to come.
What's Next?
I’ll dive into Act 5: The Event Circuit, where I’ll share more about all the supports, rejections, and awkward moments I encountered at these events!
Stay tuned for more, Moonscapers.
