Be yourself and let others be themselves
To let people be themselves, simply stop judging them and accept them for what they are. Let people do what they want to do.
As an OG ex-employee and a new entrepreneur, one of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that not everyone moves at the same speed.
Some push for progress, while others hold back—whether intentionally or not. It's really damn frustrating, but I guess I just have to be patient and take control of my own journey.
When someone wants to slow you down
In a past job, I had an eye-opening experience with a IT team leader who kept trying to slow me and the team down.
At first, he said: 🗣️ “After you handed over the project, the boss started talking to me less. I need to be seen again. I can’t afford to lose this job because the job market in China is tough for people over 40.”
I understood where he was coming from, so I stepped back to give him more ownership. But even then, the boss kept coming to me, which only frustrated him more.
Then, his excuse shifted: 🗣️ “We’re just getting a salary. There’s no point in working so hard for the boss.”
That didn’t sit right with me. I’ve always believed in giving my best, no matter the circumstances. So, I kept pushing forward.
Later, his excuse turned more personal: 🗣️ “I need to work from home because of my sick son. Can you slow down the project so it looks like we’re working, even if we’re not? The boss doesn’t know anything anyway.”
It became clear that whether his son was actually sick or not, he was using it as a shield to sabotage the team’s progress for his own comfort. When the boss was around, he acted like the model employee—pretending to care the most about the company’s success and denying any sabotage.
Despite his challenges, I realized that I needed to keep moving forward for the good of the team.
Though I wished him well with his personal struggles, I couldn't allow his approach to hold us back.
New Test in Entrepreneurship
Fast forward to today, and I’m facing similar dynamics in building my own stuffs:
📌 Some are sprinting ahead, others are coasting.
📌 Some are fully committed, others hesitate at change.
📌 Some are eager to build, others fear the discomfort of growth.
I’ve accepted that I can’t change others, but I can control how I respond.
Why I’m Sticking to My Path
Since the first day I started my business until recently, I still ran into some well-meaning people offered help and advises to change my path. Asked me to give up, change my career path to join them...
I guess they really don't know me huh.
I know that hard work alone isn’t enough to guarantee success. Success requires being on the right path, having resources, opportunities, platforms, and some luck.
All I needed is support to grow my company, find clients, figure out how to do business, and enhance the business model if needed. I need more Moonscapers that support my journey!
I needed ways to make things happen—not to be told to give up when I only started for 2 months.
Choose Progress over Permission
As you build something—whether it’s a startup, a career, or a passion project—there will always be people who try to slow you down. Some mean well, others might not. But here’s what I’ve learned:
We should control our own momentum.
An acquaintance of mine, Brayden, who owns a startup that successfully got funded, told me something crucial early on: When you’re just starting out, many people will have a lot of things to say to try and stop you.
I totally get him now. The key is to know what you're doing, and move forward without regrets.
So, here’s what I’ve figured out:
✅ Let people be who they are, let them say whatever they wanna say, but don’t let their pace hold you back.
✅ If you’re waiting for someone else, find a way to keep moving forward.
✅ Surround yourself with people who actually have your back.
I really think success isn’t just about our own drive—it’s about the people who want to see us succeed too. So, I’m moving forward with those who support me.
Okay, back to the hustle. Sorry for the mini rant—just needed to get that out there. It’s not always easy to navigate these challenges, but I wouldn’t trade the lessons. Every step is a learning experience, and I’m more fired up than ever to keep building.
Thanks for following along on this journey!
Stay tuned for more updates!
